Back to school service changes

4 weeks ago Wed 21st Aug 2019

Following recent changes to some Isle of Wight secondary school start and finishing times and the cancellation of a number of IW Council funded school buses, we’ve made changes to routes 2, 38 and 51 and added route 52 to ensure families who rely on these services can get children to school safely and on time.

All changes and routes below will go live as of 2nd September 2019.

ROUTE 2 – additional service

An additional bus will operate on school days leaving at 0725 from Sandown High Street to Newport Bus Station. This is to allow for the changes to school start times in the Newport area.

ROUTE 38 – additional service

An additional bus will operate on school days leaving at 0825 from Newport Bus Station to Christ the King College and Carisbrooke College.  This is to allow for the changes to school start times in the Newport area.

ROUTE 51 – additional service

Following the successful introduction of Route 51 to Cowes Enterprise College in April, Southern Vectis are pleased to announce that as of 2nd September 2019, an additional journey will be added to the route in the mornings.

Before school, an additional journey will run at 0735 from Newport Bus Station to Cowes Enterprise College, followed by the existing journey at 0750 in the same direction.

After school, both buses will leave Cowes Enterprise at 1455. We hope that the route will provide a suitable replacement for the IW Council contract route 306, which will cease operating at the end of the Summer Term.

Both buses will follow the standard Route 1 “via Round House” route and then turn off up Ward Avenue to serve the school.  All usual bus stops are served on route.

ROUTE 52 – new service

Southern Vectis look forward to welcoming Christ the King College and Carisbrooke College students on board their new Route 52 from Cowes, Northwood, Parkhurst and Gunville to school and hope that the route will provide a suitable replacement for the IW Council contract route 334, which will cease operating at the end of the Summer Term.

Route 52 will follow the standard Route 1 “via Round House” route from Rashley's Stores and then turn off at St Mary's Hospital to operate via Forest Road, Gunville and Carisbrooke to Christ the King College and Carisbrooke College. All usual bus stops are served on route.

In the afternoons, the bus will extend beyond Rashley's Stores through Cowes to Newport Road and Cowes Medical Centre.

The bus will leave from Rashleys at 0757 in the morning to arrive at 0830 at Christ the King and 0835 at Carisbrooke College.

It will leave Christ the King at 1525 and at 1530 from Carisbrooke Collage after school, except for Wednesday’s when there will be an additional 1435 bus due to Christ the King finishing earlier that day.
