Home to Hospital
Hospital patients and visitors travelling by bus from the Isle of Wight to the mainland can use their Southern Vectis Rover and Freedom tickets on selected bus routes to the Royal South Hants and Southampton General hospitals.
The Isle of Wight bus operator has teamed up with Go South Coast sister companies Bluestar and Unilink in Southampton to provide seamless ticketing for onward journeys on Bluestar 17 and U6 services.
We know going to hospital can be unpleasant, and travelling from the Island to the mainland for your appointment can add extra stress to the experience.
For this reason, we launched our seamless ticket meaning you can travel on one bus ticket from your nearest bus stop to Carvel Lane for the Red Jet Terminal, then again for your onward connection.
Here's how our seamless hospital ticket can work for you:
Step 1: Buy your Rover or Freedom ticket here on the Island.
Step 2: Catch the bus from your nearest stop to Newport Bus Station (unless in Newport).
Step 3: Connect with the Route 1 bus to West Cowes.
Step 4: Get off the bus at M&S Carvel Lane and walk the short distance to the Red Jet terminal.
(See https://www.redfunnel.co.uk/en/isle-of-wight-ferry/fares/ferry-passenger-fares-to-southampton/healthcare-travel-scheme/ for information on a discounted ferry return to use as part of your hospital journey.)
For Southampton General Hospital:
Catch the Quay Connect bus to Holyrood Church to connect with Bluestar 17.
For Royal Hampshire Hospital:
Catch the Quay Connect bus to West Quay Shopping centre and connect with U6.
From these stops travel directly to the hospital.
Your Freedom or Rover ticket is valid for travel in both directions, to and from the hospital.
