The Holidays are here and it is always tricky to entertain the family without breaking the bank. Here are some ideas of days out by bus that won't cost the earth.
Isle of Wight Bus and Coach Museum, Ryde. FREE ENTRY
The Museum has a display of around 20 historic vehicles, transport artefacts, displays, photographs, a tea bar and a shop. The Museum’s collection is an impressive display of the Island’s transport heritage. Located in the former Southern Vectis depot, on Park Road in Ryde. The building itself is of particular interest, being one of only two former bus garages now surviving on the Island.

The Isle of Wight Carnivals FREE
There are a selection of carnivals across the island and are all free to watch. Some towns have beach regattas and fireworks too. Click here for a full list of carnivals Carnivals are a seaside staple and a must to see at least one. With road closures and limited parking getting to them by bus is a hassle free way to get there.
Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary, Wroxall. FREE ENTRY
There is plenty to see and do at the islands Donkey sanctuary, and there is always something going on! Take part in the activity sheets or interactions, grab a bite to eat, and of course see all of our donkeys and ponies!
It is free entry and dog friendly. There are nice walks around the site too.
Get there on the Island Coaster or routes 2 and 3
Model Village Godshill. Family ticket 2 adults and up to 3 children is £25
The Model Village Godshill is a brilliant day out for all ages. Children love to peer into the cute shops of Shanklin Old Village and follow the path beside Shanklin Chine as it tumbles to the seashore, filled with more of those fabulous bonsai trees.

Calbourne Water Mill FREE ENTRY
Set in 35 acres of stunning rural landscape in the heart of the Island's Biosphere, Calbourne Water Mill contains one of the oldest working water mills in the country, dating back to the Domesday Book. Set in peaceful landscapes you can feed the birds, watch the Water Mill work and take a trip through history in the roller mill.

Isle of Wight Steam Railway, Havenstreet. Family ticket for 2 Adults and up to 4 Children £48
Embrace the smell of steam as you step back in time and explore five and a half miles of unspoiled countryside on the Island's only preserved steam railway.
Get there (Wootton Station) on route 9 and Downs Breezer from Ryde
Farringford Gardens, Freshwater. Garden entry £4 for an Adult £2 for a Child
Farringford is a grade 1 Listed Building and was the main residence of the Poet Laureate Alfred, Lord Tennyson from 1853 until his death in 1892. Farringford house and grounds have been restored to their Tennyson-era splendour and are open for visitors
Get there on Island Coaster, Needles Breezer and route 12
Browns Golf Course. From £5
There is a 18 hole course (short putting), a 18 hole course (long putting) and a 12 hole pitch and putt course. There is something for everyone whether you want a leisurely round of golf or if you want it to be more competitive. Cafe serving a variety of refreshments.

If the weather is good how about a beach day? Grab a picnic, hop on the bus and enjoy the sounds of the sea and build a sandcastle. If you are a wildlife lover there are plenty of spotting sites across the island not forgetting our loved Red Squirrel. With over 200 species of birds recorded on the island each year you are sure to spot something when you are out and about. If you are into your photography the bus offers you a great place to capture the landscape and views. Hop off at pretty thatched villages and don't forget to tag us in your photo's.
