Clean Air Day 2026

Today Thu 11th Jun 2026

clean air day

We are marking Clean Air Day on Thursday 18 June - by encouraging you to think sustainably, leave the car at home and consider taking the bus.

“Southern Vectis is committed to helping improve the quality of air we breathe across the island, and we have been working on this in a number of ways - including investing in our recently arrived new fleet of electric vehicles - with more to follow,” said Southern Vectis head of communications, Nikki Honer.

“Bus travel has changed beyond recognition over recent years, and those who haven’t travelled with us recently will be amazed at the enhancements we’ve made.

“Our new buses emit zero emissions, and the seating on-board is extremely comfortable. Since the introduction of the electric buses on the island we have lowered our emissions by 75%!

“Buses are perfect for commuting - but sustainable travel is also the perfect way to explore the many joys and hidden gems across the Isle of Wight.

“We suggest making the journey part of a day out because passengers can enjoy scenic views along the way, without the hassle of driving, parking or fuel costs.

“We hope our Clean Air Day offer encourages more people to take the bus. If we can convert some car users, it could make a huge difference to the local environment in the long term, as well as helping ease the island’s congestion issues.”
