Southern Vectis colleagues prepare to say goodbye to much-loved driver Gary Slater
1 month ago
Family, friends and colleagues of Gary Slater will pay tribute to the much-loved Southern Vectis driver on Friday, when he is laid to rest.
Gary passed away on 21 October, and had been a member of the bus operator’s close knit team since 1984, when he joined as a customer advisor. In 2008, Gary became a driver and was highly valued by all those who travelled with him.
‘Gary was much loved by colleagues and customers alike - and we always received compliments about him,” said Southern Vectis operations manager, Simon Moye.
“His funeral takes place on Friday 4 December, and the procession will pass through Newport Bus Station at 11.15am, so people have a chance to pay their respects. At the same time, Southern Vectis drivers may pull over - if it is safe to do so - for a minute’s silence to remember Gary.
“This is a very sad time for us all, and our thoughts are with Gary’s family and friends as they come to terms with his loss.”
Gary’s family have asked for any donations to be made to Aspire, a local charity that he supported.
