The New X10 & X11 starting 19/4/10

Postby a bus user on 06 March 2010 02:31

I have 2 questions concerning the new X10 between Newpot & Whitecliff bay & the new X11between Newport & Totland, that start running from 19/4/10.
1st question. are these services non stop service only stoping at stops listed or can you hop on or off any where along the route.
2nd question. if these routes are a Success will you add more X10's & X11's to the timetable & run them at the Weekend or are they just for the summer.
As i use the buses alot to travel all over the island & always buy a 30 day ticket every month. i think that these new route will be great even if they do only run once a day in each direction.

The X10 and X11 are experimental. They are aimed at commuters and we do not have any plans to operate them on weekends or bank holidays, or at other times throughout the day. The X10 will run non stop between Yarbridge and Broadlands House, the X11 between Afton Orchard and The Cask and Crispin. If they prove viable we plan to run them year round. Both will be operated by coaches.

Is it not-possible to have the X11 to stop at stops in Chessel and Calbourne, since it's passing through and these places only have limited services?

At this experimental stage we are trying the service limited stop to promote a fast journey into Newport for commuters in Freshwater and Totland. This allows the coach to proceed immediately to Newport, without the need to wait time anywhere else along it's route. Because it is a coach boarding times are also longer.

Having reached Newport the coach goes on to operate a morning school service. Any addition to the time the X11 journey will require it to run earlier in order to allow the coach to continue in a timely fashion onto its school run, and we are keen not to run it any earlier than possible to make it attractive to most commuters.

The idea of a fast limited stop journey is part of the experiment itself, as we attempt to tempt car owners out of their vehicles, especially relevant with the new £500 pa parking permit charge.
