Amazon World Island Focus

Get a case of jungle fever at the extraordinary Amazon World,
and discover why Isle of Wight Tourism named this largest collection of exotic animals on the island their Top Family Attraction.

Amazon World entrance

You enter the park through the Lost Temple of the
Inca Sun God, then pass through a desert wilderness
to the Tomb of the Ancient Gods. Here you might start
believing you’re Indiana Jones but try to resist this
thought – you’re in danger of embarrassing your kids.
Instead, point out to them the three types of bat and
the giant snakes that have made their home in the tomb.

If bats and snakes give you a shudder – take a look
at the cute penguins, the ravenous crocodiles, the
lazy sloths, or the colourful toucans. There are over
200 species of animals, birds, fish, insects, and
reptiles living in the 3 acres of deserts and tropical
rainforests. Step outdoors to watch daily falconry
displays starring owls, eagles, and the 100 mph
peregrine falcon.

But there’s a lot more to Amazon World than just
seeing the animals – you get to learn all about how
the centre is helping to protect endangered species.
The staff have set up pioneering breeding
programmes, including the first successful attempt
to breed South American anteaters. You can help
too – the animal adoption programme gives you the
chance to help the conservation effort.

Amazon World is wheelchair friendly, and there are
play areas for smaller kids as well as a picnic area and
café. It really is a fantastic family day out.
